An interesting situation follows the election of Mr J. E. Wilson as Mayor of New Plymouth, from the fact that that gentleman is at present m the hospital suffering from typlioid fever. He will be unable to assumo the office m the ordinary way, and the .Borough Council probably will have to visit the hospital m a body to mstal him, and that on or before Wednesday next. The Municipal Corporations Act provides that the mayor before entering upon hi!« office shall make and sign a declaration provided by the Act, m the prownce of the Council, and such declaration shall be attested by a councillor arid the town clerk. It also provides that the mayor elect shall come into, office^>n the first Wednesday m Ma,y following his election, and shall continue m office until ihis successor comes into office.
