BAY OF PLENTY TRADE.
APPEAL TO WELLINGTON,
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, last night.
The subject of opening up a steamer connection between Wellington and the Bay of Plenty ports is a perennial one with the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The latest communication on tho subject has come from the Taneatua Chamber of Commerce.' "Wo would urge you," ran the letter, "to interview Messrs Richardson and Co. with a view to getting them to include Whakatane as a port of call, as we understand they are making a move m the matter- At present we are tied to Auckland, and we consider it to the advantage of the district to open other markets for our supplies and produce." "Where's Whakatane?" asked one member. "It belongs to Auckland," said an-, other, with a smile. ,• .- ' The chairman said they had been into this matter before, and did not very well know what more they could do. Mr T. Ballinger: It would be a good thing if we could get a steamer connection with the place. Members were all agreed on that point. It was resolved to write setting out what the members had done m the matter m the past, and inviting the Chamber at Taneatua to make suggestions.
