Since the promise was given, and particularly since the recent fresh m the river, the j Borough authorities have been vigilant m consequence of complaints, with the result that the Borough solicitors were instructed m the matter, arid the proceedings have been taken.- ' , " S> The information has been laid under Clause C of Section 64 of the Public Health Act, which states: — "Every person commits ah offence who m any»wasr permits^ or suffer.. ' drainage or refuse from his land or premises to flow into or be deposited in -any watercourse or stream tbat flows through a borough (whether forming part of the water supply of a local authority's district or not) unless he satisfies the magistrate tbat no part 'of the watercourse or stream within the limits of the Borough is thereby defiled or polluted." The case is set down for hearing on Friday, 17th inst.
