'The men would benefit considerably from the monetary point of view, .while on the other hand the Corporation would have the advantage that some of the time which previously had been wasted by some men would now be occupied in running trams. Under the new arrangement, which will come into force shortly, all this ti moor practically the whole of it— will be occupied by the trams in earning revenue.' As an illustration of concessions or increased wages given to the men Mr Hally said that whereas under the old award a motorman with over seven years' service was entitled to Is 2_,d per hour," a motorman with three years service would in, future receive Is 2£d per hour, while a man who had served seven years as a senior motorman would receive Is 3d per hour. The wages conceded the conductors were as follows, the old rates being given in parentheses: First-year . men lsf per hour (Hid), second-year men Is Oijd (%s.\, over three years Is Id (Is ©£d)i Mr 'HiiUy added that a niuriber of other conditions of benefit to both parties had been agreed upon.
