ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

WJSLLINGTO'N, last night. A' tragic occurrence took place at St. James's place, Wellington South, on Friday night, while service was being held. Mary Agnes Jones, a widow who resided m Mansfield street, died suddenly from heart failure. Dr. Gresen was called, and on arrival pronounced life to be extinct. NAPIER, last ■ night. A laborer, aged 56, who was admitted to the hospital last month under the name of James Berry, attempted to commit suicide yesterday afternoon by cutting his throat Avith a razor. He was found m the lavatory by one of the nurses. He afterwards told a priest his name, was Barrett, and that h« came from Palmerston. North. THAMES, this day. Charles Bush, fisherman, aged 27 years, was drowned while fishing m the Thames river yesterday. He was engaged cleaning nets, when a dinghy he was m capsized. A mate saw Bush, swimming to a launch, but he suddenly sank before assistance could reach him. Police parties are dragging the river. A painful accident befel a man named R. Walker at White Island, iv the Bay of Plenty, on - Wednesday afternoon. Walker was employed by the White Island Sulphur Company, and was assisting to launch a heavy surf-boat, when tho boat by' some means skidded, and Walker was crushed against one of the piles of the small jetty.. He sustained a broken collarbone and slight, internal injuries. The steamer Rosamond was lying at anchor off the island, waiting to re: ceive a consignment of sulphur, for which purpose the boat was 'being launched. Walker was put on board and taken to Auckland. The Qeelong polo tournament came to an abrupt and tragic conclusion on March 26th. Shortly after the match between Melbourne and Camperdown had commenced, Mr Jack Lempriere (52), one of Melbourne's oldest players, crossed m front of an opposing player. There was a. collision, and Mr Lempriere^ and hi* pony came down. The v>ony quickly rose, and left its rider lying motionless on tho ground, but bleeding from the ears. Drs. Kennedy and Newman were at the man's side m a few moments, and fpund that his skull was badly fractured. He died early m the evening.
