NELSON, this day. Sir Joseph Ward addressed a very large and enthusiastic meeting at the Theatre Royal last night, hundreds being unable to obtain admission. He spoke on the lines of his recent speeches at Wellington and Auckland, dealing especially with finance, and industrial and defence matters. Ho fharply critiei.'ed the Government's actions m contrast with former professions. He promised to outline a progressive policy iv ample timo before the 'elect ion. He* at lacked the Beform method of criticising his action m connection with the ftrike. and denied that he or the Liberals had done anytliing to embarrass the Government, and declared that ho would always fight for a strong Imperial fleet and condemn the local navy -policy. A vote, of thanks and confidence was carried, with a few dissentients.
