AUCKLAND, this* day. In replying to deputation from "the city schools' yesterday, the Minister of Education (Hon. Jas. Allen) indicated tliat an amendment of the Education Act m certain directions was contemplated by the Government. Mr Allen said that he was unable to say how far tlie Act might be altered, or whether it would be altered at all, but the Inspector-General (Mr Hogben) was now going into the matter, and the result of his inquiries would be shortlylaid before him (the Minister). Amongst the questions under review, with an id<?a to introducing amendments, are those relating to the respective functions of Boards and Committees m regard to the appointment of teachers, the salaries of teachers, and the capitation rate, and the word system m regard to the election of members of Education Boards.
