CHRISTCHUROH, -last night. 'At 5.30 p.m. on Saturday the dead body of a,, young man, named George Lindsay Roberts, aged 27, was found under a, tip dray pn the road near Scargill. Hs'obody savt* the accident, but it is surmised that Roberts, who had been carting for his brother, was dozing when the, horse bolted, and that Just as Roberts caught the reins the dray ran tip a. bank and overturned on him. When the body was found the reins were still m the hands. The horse was lying on its back. - .
PALMERSTON X., last night. A lad named Ernest King,, formerly a telegraph messenger, and latterly a letter carrier, was drowned while bathing with some other companions m the Manawatu river this afternoon. Deceased got out of his depth, . and. despite the eiforts of . liis companions to save hint,; sank- and was drowned. The body was recovered by the- police.
DUNEDIN, last night. The police i have been; notified, that Moses Hanra'han, a single. " man- T? years old, who lives at St. Bathans, fell over the face of the Scandinavian claim (about 100 feet) yesterday afternoon, and was rendered unconscious, .as well as sustaining a,, broken • leg and general bruises. ' At the inquest concerning .the., death of Alexander.- Johnson, -wlio was found dead by a milkman- at the foot of the steps of deceased's house m Grey Lynn; a doctor stated that the cause of death was severe hemorrhage of the, lungs. A verdict was returned "accordingly.
