The fine all-round series being shown at His Majesty's Theatre just now is the very thing for a carnival season. A large holiday andience attended last night, and, if the warmth of the applause be a true indication, everyone Avas Avell satisfied Avith the quality" of the fare. The big 2000-footer, "The Alystery of West Sedgwick," was again followed Avith breathless interest, and the unravelling of the ingenious murder mystery absolutely riveted the. attention of every person in the house. The Edison Company has riot turned' out such a clever production for some time. "A Strops Alan's Burden" is an excellent story jjy the A.B. players.. It follows the fortunes of two brothers— one ' a policeman and the other a ne'ef-do-Avell. Tlie mother, who is old, aind who has had a hard struggle for existence, displays a stronger love for the black sheep of the, fatally, and On flier deathbed she directs the policeman to bring the worthless one from the Saloon where she knows he is. He receives his mother's blessing, but the bad strain in, him 'still prevails, and he takes the opportunity of filching ! soriie of his mother's money. His brothe^ detects him, and compels him to put it back. A burglary on the same night is being investigated by* the police, and when the polioeriian enters the house he discovera that the law-breaker is his own brother. In order to alloAv the ne'er-do-AveE to escape, the policeman shoots himself in th,e \vrist, and, Avliile receiving attention, his brother 'escapes unidentified. The story culminates in' a paihetic manner. "Through Venice oh a Gond oUv" a beautiful scenic, and tVatwick and Anhnated NPws were a trio of films Avhich were well received. The humorous element was in good hands in' "Alax, the "Snapshotter," "Folidor, Gymnast," and "Some Luck." Tins capital series will make its final appearan.ee to-night. A coniplete change of programme -will appear to-mPrrbw, Avhehlthe star feature Avill be a brilliant'draima by the famotis Players' Company, entitled "In .the Bishop's Carriage," in which that clever actress, Dolly Nicholson, will appear in a role which gives scope for a display of her wonderful pavers as an actress.
