Mr George Williams,' secretary of the Napier branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, has been nominated for a seat on the workshops branch of the Railway Appeal Board. PALMERSTON N., this day. Several local citizens have promised to contribute sums aggregating £1003 towards a fund for establishing a North Island radium institute at Palmerston. Measures, are being taken to raise the balance of the money required. NELSON, this day. The Nelson Market Gardeners' Association passed a resolution strongly protesting against the suggested admittance of Tongan fruit, urging as reasons— (l) That local growers' early tomatoes would be unable to compete against the imported article grown m natural conditions with colored labor;' (2) that there was a possibility of the dreaded fruit fly entering tlio Dominion. DUNEDIN, last night. At a meeting m the Garrison Hall to-night it was decided to form a branch of the national reserve force. A large committee of ex-volunteers was.appointed to further the object.
