LITTLE BASKING, MANY BURDENS
TRIALS OF CABINET MINISTER. LONDON, Dec. 27. Speaking at a society gathering at Cricoieth, his Welsh home, Chancellor Lloyd George discussed the duties and trials of Cabinet Ministers. He said m part : — "Some people talk enviously about Ministers as if they were basking eternally m. comfortable sunshine. I can assure you that there is not much basking, but a good many burdens. I am not speaking of those who havo attained their position through family or other influence, but those who have attained it by their own exertion and strength. "hi spite of the attacks on politicians individually, and as a class, every sensible person knows that they are an essential part of tho machinery of good government m every democratic state. "I am told that m America theso methods of attack are keeping sensitive men out of political life, although their services would be invaluable to the State. I know of many high-minded men m this country who have shrunk from such an ordeal, but somebody must face it — nay, more, if it is the obvious path of duty for any man, it is not right, to shirk it. "Politicians are essential to bridlo the excesses of selfish strength. They are priests of humanity."-
