SOLAR OBSERVATORY.

(Per Press Association.) NELSON, last night. Mr John Evershed, of the Kaidaikanal Solar 'Observatory, India, who has been m Nelson for the last month to advise m connection ~ with the erection of the (..'awthron Observatory, left, this evening en route for India, having completed his task. In his report to Mr Cawthron, Mr Evf-rshed speaks highly of the suitability of Nelson from geographical and clima-t-ologicaj points of view for the purpose of a solar physics research 1 , m some respects being superior to the natural advantages of Kodaikanal. Six sites wore found quite satisfactory as far as astronomical conditions are concerned. The final decision regarding the site will be made later. Mi' Evcrshed. also reported on the equipment of the observatory.
