'■.• At the Auckland Police Court last week a man , named Richard , Carpenter,; aged 30 years, .was remanded to appear^ at Napier on Wednesday on ,a charge that, at Napier, on September 27, he, broke and entered the, dwelling of William Thomas. Limbrick and stole jewel- 1 lery valued at £75. Carpenter was arrested about a month ago near midnight m Upper Queen street, Auckland, by Constable Dessent>. who .was suspicious of the man's actions in vrelatio'n to a house there, and it was found that JCarponter^ had a loaded revolver *on , him ,at the time. Later, Detective . ije ' Norville, when making a visit to. the house Carpenter and his wife had bee.n renting,' had hi 3 attention attracted by some jewellery, and m consequence* (says; the Auckland Star) made a surprise visit to the place with a search warrant, and discovered a .very large quantity 'of jewellery, which tallied m description with jewellery reported stolen at Napier. The detective's further inquiries resulted m tjlie present charge against Carpenter and m the obtaining of information that led to. the arrest at Napier of another man on a charge of burglary.
