The Times' Irish correspondent states that if Mr Redmond's speech (as to Mr Asquith being as firm as a rock on Home Rule) represents the Government's views the situation is not merely dangerous, but desperate. The House of Commons will be confronted a fortnight hence with a national crisis, the gravity of which .cannot be exaggerated. (Received Jan. 28, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, January 27. Mr Birrell speaking at Bristol, denied that Ulster Avas to be thrust out. He added: "Long before civil war begins tHe Government will take an opportunity to tell the country Avhat they offered, and what' Ulster refused." Sir E. Carson, speaking at Lincoln, said: "If- Mr Redmond wants a genuine extension 6f real local government m Ireland, I Avill join him. If he wants the removal of any abuses m the Government "of Ireland Bill, and social economic reforms, or remedy injustices, m social or religious circles, I will help. I am a man of peace, but not peace at any price."
