TE KOPURU FIRE.

.«. (Per Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, this day. The cause of the Te Kopuru fire was heated bearings at the "Edgar" mill. The outbreak was discovered by a watchman. The fire-prevention apparatus at the mill was unable to cope with the outbreak, and the Dargaville brigade engine was summoned. After a nine-mile journey, it could do no good, us the fire had too great a hold, but they saved £80,000 worth of timber. The manager of the "Cordes" mill states that all was safe at 5.10 p.m. Five minutes later the alarm was given. He estimates the loss at £40,000. Ali the machinery and buildings were totally destroyed. A large amount of timber saved will sell as third-class. The fire is still smouldering, but there is no danger. It will mean the ruination of the township of Te Kopuru and put 100 men out of work. It is not known whether the mill was insured.
