Although a considerable amount of interest had been aroused m connection with the proposal m consequence of Air W. D. Lysnar!s active, campaign to defeat the loan, polling was comparatively quiet, judged by the results at -tlie. main booths. At 2 o'clock only 450 votes had been recorded at the two principal booths (located at Miller's auction mart), whilst comparatively few had periled at Mangapapa and Te Hapara. The arrangements appeared, to be all that could-lie desired, and up to the hour of going to press everything had ' proceeded smoothly. The returning officer (Mr'H. M. Porter) had with him at 'the main booth Messrs H. Lockie, W. J. Cox, G. Miller and. Mitchell, whilst Mr, -Pi ».t_k Andrew acted as scrutineer for ' the 'dp* position. The total roll, it may be mentioned, comprises 4699 ratepayers^ The weather was not very favorable, showers falling during the afternoon.
Pollinor closes at 6 p.m.. and the final result should be known shortly after 7 o'clock. The figures as usual will' be posted up at the Herald office.
