CONCERT AT ORMOND.
f ;.,, . . "» \rr A A concert iii aid of the ,luncls of the Ormond Presbyterian Church was hold In the Ormond SchOol on Friday evening last. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was consequently a very large attendance. The chair, was occupied by the Rev. J. B. Hall, who has recently been Inducted to the charge. The rev. gentleman expressed pleasure at seeing so many present, and m a concise and interesting address' explained the purpose for which the concert was hold.j Thc concert was promoted by Mrs! Howard, Of Gisborne, and, with the exception of Mesdames Howard and Park, the performers were all children. Among them were several boys and girls who won distinction at the recent musical and • elocutionary . competitions m t'isborne, and these 'were assisted by pupils of the Oriiiond., School. The jnoniuors of the Gisborne party were taken out to Ormond. in' Mr^W. VV. "Bridge's motor- > car, and" needless to say they, thoroughly enjoyedythemseives. They did not return to Glsborrte immediately after thc. con- , cert, but remained with friends m Or- , mond till Saturday: evening, when Mr Bridge motored them back to town. The youthful, performers acquitted themselves 'admirably, and the concert was excellent, both from a musical and elocutionary point of , vie ( w. /tyiq various items were much' appreciated, particularly by those m the audience -who had not had an opportunity of being .present at, any - of the concerts m .connection with the musical ■ competitions recently held m Gisborne. A dialogue by Mes-. danjei?, Howard .and Park to capitally rendered, and its quaint drolling tended to recall m the minds of many present fond, memories df the ' "Land V cakes and brlther Scots." Shortly before the conclusion of the concert there was .rather a', pretty interlude; when' two or three Ormond girls; presented Mrs Howard witli a beautiful bouquet. The board, of managers are much indebted to Mrs Howard and her young performers for the help so kindly given, and are pleased to report that, tlie church,' funds* have been considerably augmented. Mrs llo.\va,rd and Mrs Park. The accompaniments \yere played by Mrs Walker and Miss Craighead. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the performers, and the concert was concluded with the singing of thc National Anthem.
