Play hovered around half-way for the i first few minutes, but then Cook kicked hard and took play to New South Wales' , line. New Zealand were awarded a j penalty m a handy position, but Ifwer--1 son's kick went slightly wide. Ifwerson made a nice opening, but waited too long m passing and was grassed. From the loose Horder secured and, getting up pace, passed to Craig, who beat House and scored. Frawley missed *.t goal.— New South Wales 19, New Zealand 19. A long line kick by S. Deane put New Zealand on the defensive, out Ifwerson returned .to the half-way. Repeated passing rushes took the ball Into New Zealand's 25, S. Deane being particularly brilliant. Two solo efforts by, Horder, which threatened New Zealand's line, were stopped by House, who, however, gave Deane and Frawley an opening by missing the ball.* A penalty saved the situation. Then Hallett secured and passed to S. Deane; the latter cut m smartly and passed to Courtney, who was grassed on the' line. A penalty relieved th 3 tension, but S. Deane and Frawley repeatedly threatened the line. Eventually New South Wales got going properly. S. Deane took, the ball well down the field and O'Malley scored between the posts.' Frawley goaled.— New South Wales 24, New Zealand 19. New Zealand rushed play into New South Wales' 25, but were soon forced back, Kelly spoiling chances by selfishness. Then New ' South Wales were awarded a penalty just m their own half. Hallett kicked a beautiful drop, which just fell short. A minute later Webb was penalised, and Hallett dropped a magnificent g0.... : -New South Wales 27, New Zealand 19. Ifwerson was instrumental m threatening New South Wales' line, and from a scrum the New Zealanders had a fine opportunity. Manning started a rush, and a score must have followed but for Kelly's selfishness, followed by a knock-on. New Zealand continued to press until New South Wales were awarded a penalty just on their own line. Eight minutes from time New South Wales marked m a" good position, and Horder goaled.— New South Wales 28, New Zealand 19. Solid work by Manning, Mitchell and Walters took play to New South Wales' 25, and New Zealand narrowly missed a try from a loose scramble, Hayward failing by inches. Soon after the kick out Hallett narrowly missed a long pot from half-way, and just missed again immediately after. Then Cann, who had gone into the backs, got away, and, transferring to Horder, the latter side-stepped neatly and scored behind the posts. Frawley goaled. The bell sounded at once, with New South Wales 33, New Zealand 19. PALMERSTON N., last night. The League football match. Wanganui v. Wellington resulted m an easy win for Wellington by 26 points to 6. The ground was m a sloppy condition.
