CRICKET ASSOCIATION.

The report' of the secretary (Mr J. P. McLisky), to be presented to the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association to-night, is as follows : — "I must .congratulate the delegates of the Association for the able manner m which the interests ,and welfare of the game has been attended to, particularly m the advancement of the schools and junior grades — our future cricketers. As m the past we have again been hampered by t*K> unsuitability of the wickets, which is a decided deterrent to our cricket. During last season ai turf wicket was laid down by the Borough Council on tho Reserve, and should be m readiness for' this year's play. This is a deoided step m the right direction, and it. is to be hoped that the Council will see its way clear to lay at least two more turf wickets during the coming season. Two representative teams have visited Gisborne, namely Tokomaru and East Coast. On both occasions the local representatives scored 'handsome victories, heating'Tokomaru by 10 wickets, and East Coast 'by 214 runs. At the invitation of the Hawke's BBary r Association our senior representatives journeyed to Napier to fulfil their annual fixture with Hawko's Bay, the hiatch resulting m- a cfrawn game owing to the severe weather stopping the play. Had the match been finislied it was the opinion of many that our team would have been victorious. Strong efforts were made to dispatch a junior representative team to Napier, but unfortunately of no avail. I would suggest that every effort be made to fulfil tho fixture thisseason. The Saturday senior competition resulted m a win for the Wanderers Cricket Club, who thus retained \Tio Barry Cup for tlw fourth successive season. Tho Thursday senior competition, with tho AustinForrest Cup attached was won by tho Alhambra Club. The Saturday Junior Competition was secured by the Wanderers Club with the Walker Shield attached. The schoolboys' cup was again annexed by the Te Hapara School. The Association desires to thank the various gentlemen for donations received. The thanks of tho Association are also due to Mrs Parker, of < the British Empire Hotel, for tine use of a club room for weekly meetings. >* I desire to place on record the generous donation of a handsome shield by Messrs Austin and Forrest for the Thursday senior competition. Once again with all due respect, I must call tlie attention of the individual clubs to tho election of delegates. During last, season the attendance at meetings was deplorable, and as such does not redound to tho credit of clubs or of the Association. If the clubs collectively will not. appoint active delegates, it is not reasonable to expect firstclass representation, and thus they are failing m their duties to cricket and to the Association as the reigning body."

"Jo-day is the 56th anniversary of the eight-hour system of work m the Auckland province.

During its 39 months of existence the Wairarapa Egg Circlo has disposed of 117,123 dozen eggs, or 1,405,476, for the sum of £7033 9s 9d.

At present there are' 750 immigrants on their way out to New Zealand assisted by tho Government, and they are due to arrive from now till the middle of Otetober. The Westnieath reachedAuckland on Tuesday with five^ — they will be followed by the lonic with 224. Then will come tho Athenic with 282, Morayshire with 24, and Dorset with 123.
