The Department of Justice announced that it would leave the case m the Slierbrooke Judge's hands for the present. I The American Attorney, Jerome, obtained another writ of habeas corpus, with the object of having Thaw produced m Court on the ground of the alleged faulty indictment.

LONDON, August 27. The lawyers who are acting for Harry Thaw have advised him to evade deportation by agreeing to leave Canida at some suitable point. Thaw, however, will find r«jiy attempt at escape a riskyproceeding, as an armed guard is constantly patrolling the terrace outside his cell m the gaol at Slierbrooke, Quebec. In addition to these precautions representatives of New York State are watching the jMol continuously, one shift of officers relieving another at regular intervals. These men 'have a high-powered motor-car ready to pursue the notorious murderer at a moment's notice should he attempt to give his gaolers the slip tho second time. Local alienists have examined Thaw, and have declared him to bo sane.
