COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

DATE FOR ENTRIES KXTENDKD. The general committee of tlie Cisbornc Competitions Society met last night, there being present : Messrs E. H. Mann (chairman), L. T. Burnard,' Ll. Ether■ington, J. C. E. Kiss-ling, C. V. Harre, R, Cole, J. H. Bull, W. Hamilton Irvine -and G. R. Ball (hon. secretary). It was reported that entries were com•ing to hand in large numbers, 130 being received yesterday, makingr a total of •about 250. . i" It was decided to extend the date for receiving entries until Monday, August 18th. This was done on account of numerous inquiries for entry forms. Tlie sub -committee appointed to infquire into designs for certificates and medals submitted recommendations, which were approved. Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs Avill prepare the certificates, and Messrs Mayer and Kean the medals, both being- Wellington firms. - Messrs Cole, Kissling, and Harre and the secretary were appointed a sub-com-mittee to draft a" programme to be submitted to the next meeting of the committee /for consideration; It was dehided to have a box plan for each night o'f the festival, subscribers to have first choice of seats. ! Charges for admission will be fixed at next meeting. It was agreed to issue ballot papers at the entrance, so that the half-hour entertainment can be judged by popular vote. ' The maximum number of voices for the children's chorus was increased from 16 'to 20. In connection with the children's essays to be written iri school, the following subjects have been allotted: — Under 15 : . fa) Your favorite book, or (b) your favorite hero or heroine ; (c) a happy Christmas, (d) a weekfs camping. Under 12: (a) A visit to a battleship, (b) Arbor Day, (c) what I saw at the pictures. The conditions as regards nom-de-plume and sealed envelopes do not apply to the children's essays written in school. Additional marks are to be awardecf for neatness and correctness of spelling. In Tegard to the bass solo, competitors are reminded that the' solo. "The Lute Player," may be taken in either B minor or C minor, and ample copies are now available. In the baritone solo po stipulation is made as regards the key, and competitors . may make their own choice. The committee "will,, meet again next Friday, a*t 4.30 p.m.
