ARBOR DAY.
.(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir, — On perusing your report of the Arbor Day ""celebrations m - yesterday ■£ issue, it is x-egrettable that you should have 'mad© the/statement, i:e., that "the Arbor Day fn&tjph was an hour late ir. commemcing, waiting for the Mayor.'' Such was not the case. '■ In justice to our worthy Mayor (Mr J. R. Kirk) I woulc mention that he Was exactly on time, as I have, always found -..him-- since being associated with him m public matters. It was proposed by me to arrange a few preliminaries before starting, commencing at 2 .o'clock, so as to give th* public an opportunity to bo present, amd/the City Band- kindly consented tc fill lin the time between 2 and 3 o'clock, while his Worship: attended to other functions as arranged, viz., Mangapapa [Sohooi 1.30 p.m., and Kaiti School 2.1f 'p.m., when he was, timed to .arrive, a? he did punctually, at 3 o'clock.
