The trouble yver the Auckland Polioe Association, .. prompted Mr Carey, a prominent Wellington laborer, to question the Government member for Wellington East, Dr, Newman, upon his attitude. "Are you m favor of the police having tha right to organise to better! their labor conditions?" asked Mr I Carey. "1 do not see why any branch of Civil Servants should no* have that right," replied' tli3 member for Wellington 'East. "Mr Herdman doss," said someone present. - "Well, .th-a-t is not my funeral,'" retorted the doctor, who was afterwards asked if he would vote against liis party if necessary on a question of ; regulating hotel , workers'.' hours. The doctor's answer was a positive affirmative, coupled with; 'the declaration that he had already, voted against -.his party since reentering the House.
