POVERTY BAY RUGBY UNION

1 The weekly meeting Qf the. -management .cbinmitte'e of tUe Poverty Bayt Rugby Union was held last night. Present: Messrs H? E. r "Maude (chairman), T. Fahey, C. Morse, W. Howard, and E. L. Maude.

Mr T. Fahey moved, and Mr C. Morse seconded, that the resignation of the hon. secretary (Mr E^ L. Maude) be accepted with regret, and that the union place on the minutes the appreciation of the work done by Mr Maude, and that & f letter be forwarded to him. — Carried. '•

Mr-F. Cramp, assistant hon. secretary; to the P.B. Hockey Association, wrote, asking what the union proposed doing in] the matter of raising the £100, which with the amount promised by the Boi--' ough Council (£350), would be suilicient to erect a fence around the Childers $oad reserve. — The Town Clerk wrote, statiiig that the tenders received for the fenc- ; ing of the Childers road reserve were m excess of the £350, the amount the' Council, owing to shortage of funds, was prepared to spend.— The chairman moved,- I and Mr E. L. Maude seconded, that the : union suggest that each sports body using the -reserve should appoint two delegates to confer with the Council as to the best means of raising the extra £100 necessary to fence the reserve, and that the secretary of the Hockey Association act as secretary to the representatives of sports bodies, aud obtain an expression of opinion from the various sports bodies. — The chairman was appointed a special- delegate to the n)eeting' of sports bodies. ■

The secretary of the N.Z. Rugby Union forwarded a cheque for £8 for school grant.— Received with thanks.

The secretary of the Matawhero Football Club wrote, stating that the club was willing to contribute 7s 6d towards expenses of all matches played on the club's ground at Matawhero.— lt was decided to reply thanking the club for its offer, and to notify it that the committee would arrange matches during the rounds

ing to the committee's letter, stated that; there were not three clubs on the Coast,! but there were three teams. Union, stating that as Tuparoa wished to form a sub-jinion, would it be agreeable! for Tuparoa to arrange matters of : Its : own, a competition to be played between them ; and tKe winner ol such competi- ; tion to play the winning team of the Waiapu sub-Union competition, so -as to decide the club premiership; Tuparba to affiliate with the Waiapu sub-Union. j

The secretary of the Auckland Union wrote 'stating that the Poverty Bay Union's challenge for the Ranfurly Shield had been accepted, and stating that August 9th was suggested as the date of matcU at Auckland. — Decided to reply stating that the date was accepted.

The Glsborne Football Club wrote, stating that they would be unable to get a team together for the Thursday matches, owing to some of their members 'joiriing the Kia Tok Club. They suggested that the players 'be drafted into three teams and a competition arranged on the same lines as the : Hockey Association had 1 m vogue.— The 'matter was left over for ithe sub-committee to report next . It was decided to notify all third grade teams that their lists of players showing weights and ages be handed In ■by next Monday . night. The matter of players being passed for clubs was brought up for discussion, and it was ultimately resolved, on tho mo* tion of the chairman, that a player must be resident m the district seven days before he can be passed for a club. ' The matter of revising the rules was considered, and it was left to a committee of the chairman and Messrs S. Dean and T. Fahey to go into, and that Mr H. E. Bright, an old officer of the union, be asked to assist m the matter. The fixtures for Saturday are as follows:— Seniors: V.M.P. v. United, No. 1 ground: Kaiti-City v. Garrison, No. 2 ground. Juniors: Matawhero *v. Kaiti-City (3 p.m.), reserve; 'Garrison v. V.M.P. (i.45 p.m.), No. 1 ground. . Thirds: Kaitl-City v. United (1.45 p.m.), No. 2 -ground; Garrison v.
