WAIKOHU SHEEP DOG TRIAL CLUB.

The competition drew out to six full days.. Tuesday and . Wednesday were fine, Tuesday opened dull with low-lying clouds, which made events 2 and 3 very i uncertain ; as the flag was well up m the cloud line the sheep and dogs at times were quite out of sight to the competitor. The judge (Mr G. Hawkins) says the events were run off on a whole clean and up to time. The ground for trial Work were well chosen. A great part of the work was up to standard) and the officials had all the arrangements beautifully handled and everything went off to porfection. The secretary is to be congratulated on the support he received from all hands. Mr -Williams, as timekeeper, was very much m evidence with hi 3 bell ; m fact the shepherds placed the utmost confidence m his time, and they are prepared to stake it that never was such accurate time kept on a dog trial field. Mr Deacon, as dog steward, had a long and. arduous task getting the events away sharply. Competitors fr<jm all over the North Island competed, and it was very gratifying to the local men to know that they can still handle a dog well enough to come within bounds of the timekeeper's bell. Bougen's Chum, 6'Ji points, won F. Pattullo's prize for the Champion Dog. H. H. Marshall's Quick, 20 points, won G. Hawkins trophy for least entries scoring most points. H. Redmond's Madge won the event for best marked dog m Class 111. £. Tait's Rough took Primrose and Leslie's prize for best-looking beardy dog on the ground. R. Mead's Kag took Mr U. Buscke's trophy for the best dog on the ground. W. Bougen'a Chum takes Cooper and Nephew's prize for the dog under best command. Mr Con Neenan's trophy for shepherd under 21 years of ago scoring most points has not yet been" decided. T. Farr's Flake secured the Herald's trophy for fastest head m Class 111. Mr T. B. Spence lent the club the sheep used for the trials. They were a good lot, very fit and fast, and gave the competitors every satisfaction. H, Mead, winner of the Senior Cup, which was presented by Messrs Turnbull and Tullock for the be*t team of three dogs, w»» won m 1911 by i£, Tait; m 1912-13 by Mead, who ha» now won it outright. E. Tait (jun.) also b«comea the owner of Mr Ben Taylor'a oup, which was won m 1911 by T. Hopper with 73 points, and m 1912 by E. Tait (126), and again thii year with 106 points. The presentation of cups, etc., wag made yesterday m the Oil Springs hotel, there being a large attendance. Mr H. Hedmond occupied the chair. Messrs j E. Tait and R. Mead were received with great appjause, these two being local men and using station dogs that have had no special training. The prizewinners had quite an embarras9ing time, their health being drunk m bumpers oi champagne, Messrs Taylor and Miller haye offered to present a cup to the club to replace the one won by Rod Mead, and fl-lr T. Farr donates £2 2s to be run for at next meeting for a drovers' class, team of two dogs.
