The many friends of Mr E. P. Joyce ■will be pleased to learn that he is steadily recovering from a severe illness; Mr H. E. Hill has agreed to accept the honorary secretaryship of the newly - formed Beautifying Association, and a meeting of the committee will be held m the course of a few days. When the Star of Canada went ashore about 12 months ago, the officers of the vessel made a large number of friends m Gisborne. A letter from one of the company to a Gisborne friend states that Mr C. Brookes, who was chief engineer on the Star of Canada, has secured employment- m London, and does not intend to return to tbft. sea. Mr C. Vandenbergh, who held the position of second officer on the stranded ship, now occupies a similar position on the s.s. Star of Australia. Mr H. Campbell, third engineer, has passed; hia chief engineer's examination, and is on one of the Tyser boats m Eng- 1 land. .Mr Patterson, . chief offcer, is at present acting master . of the s.s Starj of -England. j A quiet but pretty t wedding was solemnised at St. Andrew's Presbyterian I Church on Saturday, June 14. The contracting parties were Mary Miller, youngest daughter of David Miller, t-Ucoats, Scotland, and Angus Campte.ll,- eldest son of Angus Campbell, Stor'noway, Scotland. The- minister was the Rev.* Mr Grant. The bride wore a very pretty pale blue dress and a black hat with plume, and was attended by one bridesmaid, Miss Ina Park, who -wore a pretty white dress and white braver hat with plume. WELLINGTON, last night. The Hon, W. F. Massey left to-night j for Christchurch en route to Dunedin; where he will attend functions at which the Hon. James Allen is to be entertajined. Private advice has been received to the effect that Mr H. W. Northcroft, Resident Commissioner at the Cook Islands, who was recently indisposed at Rarotonga for some weeks, has now sufficiently recovered to attend to his official duties.
