COMPULSORY RETIREMENTS.

WELLINGTON, last night. Two more officers of the Civil Service have received notice of their retirement, having reached the age limit. These are Mr Roderick Murray, manager of water races at Naseby since 1893, and Mr R. J. S. Hickson, bookkeeper m the Treasury.
It is understood that the Commissioners intend to retire all officers who have reached or passed the age of 65. A number of messengers have received notice of retirement as from December 31st next, with tliree months' leave on pay from September 30th. The Commissioners intend to recommend a minimum pension of £1 weekly to single men and 30s. to mari'ied men.
The Commissioners are engaged almost exclusively upon the Provisional Classification List, wlrich^ will probably be finished before the eaid of the month. Appeals will be allowed against this within 30 days of its publication, and when the appeals have been dealt with tho revised, list, with recommeda-tions regarding salary, will be presented to Parliament for approval.
