The March number of the American Economic Review contains a warm appreciation of the work and findings of the Cost of Living Commission appointed by the Mackenzie (Government. "The intellectual temper of the Commission," it says, "is shown by the nature of the authorities most 'frequently quoted — e.g., Marshall, BowJey, Hooker, and Fisher. . . The New Zealand report is far superior to anything that has appeared on the subject thus far m the United States." According to this authority, which is the leading journal of its kind m the world, "the most significant" of the Commission's recommendations is "that m favor of the representation of New Zealand on the proposed International Commission on the Cost of Living." This Commission was proposed by two of the most eminent economists and statisticians of the day, Professor Irving Fisher, of America, and Dr. Beaver, of Switzerland, and the proposal was considered by the Ameri<»n Senate last year.. ,y.
