A COLOSSAL CANDLE.

It i 3 announced that a Haarlem firm i 3 engaged upon the manufacture of a candle, 16 feet -high, to weigh 400 pounds, and which will cost £300. When finished it is to 'be sent to the Vatican to be placed m St. Peter's, where it will be lighted on feast days m memory of Mr Pierpont Morgan. The gold leaf to be used m the decoration of the candle will cost £50. It will have a square base with sides 18 inches wide, on one of which will be placed an oil painting of Mr Pierpont Morgan. It is said that the candle would burn continuously for 3000 days. Hitherto the largest candle m St. Peter's at Rome iias been one which was blessed last year by the Pope and placed before the altar of St. Blaise. That candle weighed 208 ib, was ll^ft m height, and measured 2ft 9in at the base. It was a sacrificial offering to St. Blaise (the healer of throat complaints) by a great Italian singer, who, naving lost his voice, prayed 1 for recovery to the saint. His prayer was heard, when he promised to the saint the finest candle that could be made. After the candle was blessed by the Pope it was lighted, and will reniain burning until co.mpletely consumed, which will not happen, until six years from the date of lighting.
