The Incorporated Society of Meat Importers' Smlthfield market quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen meat are based on actual sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb or •25 quarters* of beef of fair average quality. The quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market. The prices which follow are on the average a farthing per lb more than the values ex ship, this difference representing an average cost in expense, handling, conveyance, and selling the meat:— Mutton.— Canterbury, light (May 24th 4Jd), May 31st 4_d; Canterbury, medium (4fd), 4j|d. Canterbury, heavy (4 1-I6d), 4 l-16d; North Island, ordinary (4sd), 4Jd; North Island. baSt (4 3-l6d), 4 3-16tt; New Zealand, ewes (3|d), 3Jd; Australian, light (3Jd), 31d; Australian, ewes (3_d), 3fd; River Plate, heavy (3 13-16d), 3 3-16d.

The Department of -Agriculture hag re' ceived the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London May 31:—
Mutton.— The market is firm, and there is a good demand for prime quality. Holders are firm. There has been a better tone in' the market this week. Quotations: Canterbury 4_d, North Island 4Jd. -•-•<•
Lamb.— The market is weaker and slightly lower. High prices have been restricting business in the market. Arrivals are very heavy. Quotations: Canterbury 6Jd, : other than Canterbury fid. "Beef.— The market is depressed. Supplies of American chilled beef arc small. The weather lately has been unfavorable to the sale of beef. Chilled is selling at lower prices. The stocks of New Zealand beef on hand are light. Quotations: N.Z. hinds 3Jd, fores 3id, chilled hinds 4d, fores 2|d.
Butter.— The market is quiet and steady, except for New Zealand, of which the supply is practically exhausted. The market is firmer owing to the Tainui accident. Quotations: Choicest N.Z. 115s, Danish 115s, Australian iocs, Siberian 100s, Argentine 102s. -
Cheese.— The market Is firm, with an improved demand. Holders are not anxious to sell. Quotations: N.Z. white 61s, colored 595.
Hemp.— The market is depressed and a speculative decline has been caused by the absence of manufacturers. Quotations: N.Z. good-fair £30, fair' £20 10s. The prices (nominal) for forward shipment of fair current Manila is £31. The output from Manila for the week was 21,000 bales.
Wool.— The market is remaining firm. Current Bradford quotations for tops are 30s, low crossbreds 16d per lb, 40's ljd» 44'g medium crossbreds i7id, 50's half-bred 2ld. 56's quarter-breds 24d, 60's merinos 99Jd.
