Mumura, who has proved to be a great disappointment of late, has been returned to Racecourse hill. The St. Ambrose gelding will be hacked about on his owner's station. In company with another of Mr 11. A. Knight's horses ln Gregory, by St. Ambrose— Neroh.

An accident that might have been attended with very serious consec-uences occurred on the sand track at Riccarton last week, during training operations. The three-year-old colt Autumnus and the hurdler Mercedo were working separately" on the sand track, the former doing slow work, while Mercedo had Just finished a mile and a-quarter gallop. When about twenty yards past the winning post, and just as Mercedo was going to pass the three-year-old, the latter swerved outwards, and received the full weight of the massive hurdler in the rear. As a result neither Autumnus nor Mercedo has since visited the tracks The former received injuries to his hindquarters, but lt ls not anticipated that they will prove serious. Mercedo has strained the muscles In his shoulder, and will have to be laid aside for some time Autumnus has no immediate engagements, . so the accident ls not likely to greatly effect his connections. With Mercedo the result is different. The Welbeck gelding, who ls a tjseful hurdler, was showing improved form, and the mishap will mean that he will be unable to start for some time to come.
