WOMEN JUDGES.

COURT OF MORALS.

NEW YORK, April 19

A "Morals Court" with five women judges is the latest legislative device for the welfare of girls epployed in factories, shops, and offices in the State of Illinois.

A Bill establishing such a^ court has been prepared under the supervision of the • Lieutenant-Governor, 1 Mr O'Hara, who says: "The object .of. the court will be the protection of girl employes from unprincipled employers. Iti the course of our investigations in Chicago we have received scores of letters from girl typists and factory girls telling how they have been led astray by the men of their' firms. These letters are not anonymous. We liave now a list of more than 200 houses ahd professional men in Chicago who have figured in the communications we have received as responsible for the downfall of employes.

"A State 'Morals Court' with women as judges will provide a remedy for this evil. Girls under present conditions are frequently accused of blackmail if they divulge > their experiences. They will in future be able to communicate confidentially whatever they wish to the 'Morals Court.' The judges, if the circumstances warrant, will use the information thus obtained to prosecute guilty employers or drive them from the community."
