(Per Press Association.) TIMARU, last night. An outcome of the recent trouble over the wharf work was the prosecution yesterday *of • a young* man named Murphy for violently assaulting C. V S. Brewer because — from the offender's point of view — "Brewer was a **scab." Counsel for defendant said the latter was not a wharf laborer. The row, however, began with defendant inquiring, "Are you one of those scabs?". Tlie Magistrate remarked that the large attendance of men m the Cour£ indicated that the assault was more, than the ordinary squabble, and imposed a fine of £5 and costs (265), or 14 days' imprisonment, half the fine to go towards the complainant's medical expenses, which defendant promised -to pay.
