ORIGINATED IN RUBBISH HEAP

(Per Press Association J AUCKLAND, last- night." A fire broke out at 7 o'clock last night m the large five-storey warehouse of Messrs Laidlaw. Leeds and Co., m Fort street. The outbreak originated m a heap of rubbish at the bottom of the lift well, and the flames, went straight up the weli. -u-eaking- Out again m the bedding store r.n the top floor. ] The Tsrigado was quickly on the scene, j and soon had the fire on the bottom 1 floor subdued, but the flames above s/ave the firemen much more • difficulty.. The fire was eventually subdued, but not until there had been considerable damage done on the top floors, the roof being badly burned through. A greatdeal of damage was done to the stock by water. The total extent of the damage and the insurances are not available. The cause of the fire is not known. /
