CHRISTUHUROH, this day. John Hitchcock, who assaulted his sister Avith a razor at Akaroa recently, and subsequently attempted to commit suicide, was charged to-day with attempted murder, and was remanded, counsel saying that an application would be made to have Hitchcock committed to a- mental hospital. (Special to Herald.) DUNEDIN, this day. It is understood that the Otago coal mine owners will meet m conference early next week to discuss the position they will take up m respect of the men's demand; that the employers are aiming at uniformity, and that there is every prospect of satisfactory < agreements being entered into with the . men, they being unwilling to come under the jurisj diction of the Arbitration Court.
