m , LONDON, April 23. _ There was a spirited debate m the House oi, Lords on the defence question. Lord Haldane insisted that the force* at present m existence were adequate to protect Britain m case of war. Lbrd Uurzon urged that the question of the t& o* t-he n a ti on should- be lifted out of the mire of party politics, arid siicrgested a conference between the leaders of both parties to devise an acceptable plan.
