DEMANDS FOR MONEY.
MORE THAN THE GOVERNMENT CAN SUPPLY. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A deputation from the Cook Memorial Committee asked Mr Massey, for a sub_idy oh the cost, of the " Cook memorial at Queen Charlotte Sound, which amounted to £1500. Mr Massey said the Government would keep the Ward Government's promise to give £370. He 'would not promise anything further at present. Ihe demands for money dur-| ; mg the last few days were simply enor,mous, and would hardly be credited. Indications of winter had resulted m anj enormous number of applications fori school buildings and' roads, etc., which amounted to far more than the Government coul- supply.
