RIFLE SHOOTING. Shooting at Makauri was carried out <m Saturday under very pleasant conditions. They left town at 6 in the morning, and the big programme, which was put through very smoothly, was not finished befoi -. darkness set in A tricky "fishtail" v.i.J played havee with tne scoring, beating even old thots again and again, but the high average totab which were recorded is sterling evidence of the good allround progress members are making. The weather held good until the last range at 600 yards was ' being shot over, when a heav> shower passed by, and the light which foJpwe- made accurate shooting almost an • impossibility. Apart from thi3 a thoroughly enjoyable day's sport- was experienced, and at times excitement ran hio-h as the figures began to mount up and the evenness of the scores were noticed. C. S. Allan again had hard luck in just missing the possible at.SOC yards, whilst a fe-atuxe oi the day W tha good shooting put up by Geoffrey Parker, who thoroughly deserves the aggregate trophy of his grade. Additional interest was lent by the inclusion oi several sweepstakes and the kindness of "a party of ladies who kept the 'billy' going was much appreciated. Two competitions were fought out in three grades, the A grade men starting from scratch, whilst the B and' C grades were handicapped on their average shooting for the season.
