■*— — ■ r For some time past the Poverty Ba\ Golf Club has been negotiating for v lease of some nati\ r e land near AAvapuni. for the purpose of laying .down new golf links. Legal matters m. connection with the deal 'have. advanced "sufficiently to enable the club to acquire the lease, artd a special meeting of the club was' held last night to consider the' question of financing, the project. Mr G. Grant was m, the ohair. The matter Avas discussed at some length, and.it Avas mentioned that the question of funds had been" arranged. It av as pointed out that the new links. over whioh the club has playing right? for ten years, would entail an increased rental. In view of this, and also taking into consideration the club's 7 financialposition, it Avas decided to increase the men's subscriptions to £3 3s and ladies to £1 lis 6d. .'-..'.' It was agreed that no ■ (alteration should be, made m the subscription for country members — those members avlh: reside outside a radius of 12 miles from the tovvh. • It Avas decided to recommend the committee to engage a professional to lay out the grounds, and it is hoped that, the links Avill.be '.in order to commence play about April.
