AN IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.
QUESTIONS IN iTHE COMMONS. LONDON, Jan. 10. Mr D. V. Pirie (Liberal) asked Mr Asquith, in the House of Commons today, Avhethor, in vieAv of the statements bf'Mr R. L. Borden, the Canadian Pre- ! mier, and of opinions expressed in the House thereon, the Government Avould summon a conference of representatives of all parties to consider the possibility of strengthening the House by the admission of representatives of the overseas' dominions. Mr Asquith : "Much as I would welcome a settlement of these matters by consent, I fear that the .proposals mad© by the hon. member Avould not be practicable, at tho present moment." Mr Pirie then inquired if the Prime Minister was aAVare that Mr Borden had stated that it Avas not the best statesmanship to evade , the problems at issue. Mr Asquith: "I. entirely agree." Mr Pirio: "Then isn't it clearly a duty that the Government should undertake?" Mr Asquith: ''Yes. But not by taking action by a particular step at a particular momenta The Avhole question requires careful consideration."
