IMPERIAL SENTIMENT.
UNIVERSITY'S HAYDON PRIZE, j (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The. result of the 1912 competition fori the Haydon. prize was announced at j yesterday's sitting of the University | Senate. Only three essays were submitted, the subject being The Value of the British Navy to the Colonies." On behalf .of the examiners the Chancellor I stated that though the essays were not ! of the first class it had been decided to award a prize to that written under the motto "Admirals All." The author was Joseph V. Wilson, of Canterbury College. The prize arises from a donation by the late Joseph Haydon, and is intended for the encouragement of "Imperial sentiment. It is offered annually, the prize comprising books valued at £5. ; . ' The Chancellor stated that the subject for 1913 would be ''The Concentration of the British Navy in the North Sea, as it Affects the Colonies."
