"CORONATION" MOCKERY

• AUCKLAND. la.t n.jhl. At Waahi to-day the tangi was continued. In expectation that the "coronation" of Te Rata, Ma-hut a's successor.. would take place thia morning, a large number visited the pa. Evidently Sir James Carroll's advics regarding the retention of the royal title was not taken, it having been decided that Te Rata should be chosen as the successor to his father, with the title of "king." Tho -Manipotos were most adverse to a change, and early this morning announced their allegiance to the new "monarch." Among them were -Sir James and Lady Carroll and the big chiefs who were present yesterday, as well as a fairly lar^e number of new visitors, who arrived by train. The "coronation" is definitely fixed for next Sundav at roon.
Th. funeral of Mahuta is to take place on the day following. Henare Kaihau was in possession of the marae to-night, and spolao at length in acknowledgment of the speeches made by the visitors during the ceremonies.
