The weather was gloomy, and stumps had to lie drawn at 5 p.m. on this account.- E.. W. Jlarvcy captained the Kia Kaha team, and A. .Seymour United. The latter won the toss, and elected to take strike, McLeod>and Gnrfshore opening to the bowling of Grant and Harvey. H. Jones bowled well fbr Kia ; Kaha, capturing four wickets for six runs .off 3.5 overs. ■ Gortshore batted pluckily fbr his side, his score being well put together. The innings closed for 31 runs, only seven men batting. D. Miller and R. Grant opeend for Kia Kaha, and runs came quickly until Grant played over one from Gartshorc. Sheridan came to light with three wickets with sticcessive balls, thus accomplishing the "hat trick" m the firsj; match of the season. D. Miller's 46 were put together quickly, and he showed sound hitting for the first match. Grant, Jones and Lyndon also went at the bowling m good style. Kia Kaha declared with five wickets down for 96, and United has lost one wicket for 31. when the light failed, the match ending m a -two-point win for Kia Kaha.
