(Press Assn. — By Telegraph. — Copyright.) (Received Octolier 2, 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, October 1. A petition from the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society has been presented to the Assembly. It states that four out of the five signatories of the former petition requesting an inquiry into tlie Society were formerly employed j by the society. The petition alleges that 1 one of the signatories Mas dismissed for) misconduct. The services of another three of the signatories were dispensed with for good and sufficient reasons. It urged thai the allegations are not supported by the evidence, other than the statennents contained m the petition itself. Tlie statements against the society, its conduct, financing, and management, *are denied, and are described as false and misleading. Petitioners believe that the previous petition was presented with the intention of injuring the Society, and damaging its interest. It was hot bona fide m the public interest or m the interests of the society. The Assepably decided to print and circulate the petition, -which is of great length. The debate, on the second reading of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Bill was adjourned,. after a motion. tliat the Bill be read six. months hence was defeated by 26 votes to 18 yp'tes.
