The latter 'a score for the first innings was -just a few short .of that- of the- Australians, being 389 against 398. Vine (4) and R. Relf (0) resumed batting, and scored freely. Vine, Robert Relf, and Simms went out for 95. Robert • Relf bat-' ted, for 80 minutes, and scored five fours. Then Albert Relf and Ranjitsinhji became associated. The century was hoisted m }00 minutes, and 203 was hoisted m • 170 minutes. Albert Relf cleverly made his total m 125 minutes, with off-, driving and cutting. \ He scored 12 fours. Prince Ranjitsinhji played m delightful style, making 36 m 75 minutes. The partnership added 107. Chaplin, the incomer, retired without scoring. He was struck m the stomach by a ball from Emery, who was erratic m delivery. Kellick, the fifth batsman went out for 7. " Prince Ranjitsinhji was now 82. In driving; he was missed at 46 by Jennings m the slips, off Minnett. , Chaplin resumed when five were down, and kept up the wicket, while Ranjitsinhji did the scoring, his century being compiled m 140' minutes. Fender and Ranjitsinhji added 51 ■ for the seventh wicket. Ranjitsinhji batted for 165 minutes, m masterly style, making- 22 fours. Fender and Cox added 65 for the eighth wicket. Fender was 65 minutes driving and square-leg hitting. He made a sixer and 12. fours. The last two wickets added five. The total of 300 hoisted m 255 minutes, the' innings lasting 325 minutes. Stumps were then drawn for the day.
