FARMER KILLS AN ASSAILANT.

A well-known and highly-re-spected farmer, Herbert Thorby, is alleged to have shot a man named McArthur. The latter was working for Thorby, and was discharged. An altercation occure'd. • Thorby was subsequently attacked by McArthur a tomahawk, whereupon .Thorby, it is alleged, fired twice, killing McArthur instantly. Thorby later reported himself to the police.
