A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING

The, annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association A was held to-day, Mr G. Witters presiding over a flarga attendance of members. t '' • Mr Witters apologised for the absence of Mr F. B. Barker, the President, .whom he, said had been indisposed, and only returned to Gisborne this morning. They were glad to hear Mr Barker's health Avas improving. ( The fe port was submitted as follows :

"The past year has been a successful one, resulting m the overdraft being Aviped out, viz. £119 9s sd, a credit balance being established m the Bank ol £78 Is, whilst the assets were increased by flooring the produce shed at a cost of £44 12s 3d, and additions to -yards costing £11 10s '2d; total £253 12s lOd. Allowance for depreciation has been made as under: Buildings £14 2s 3d, furniture £2, grounds £21 7s 6d, .plant £16 4s, yards £62 4s Bd, total £115 18s 53. The cattle classes of the last Show showed a distinct improvement m the dairy classes, and it is the desire of the committee to encourage these as much as possible. Horses were again a large class and did not lessen the reputation of our district for producing good, useful stock, The entries m sheep were well' up to the mark, and a pleasing feature was the increase m competition from outside sources. The produce shed Avas floored just previous to the last Show, and the better facilities afforded will, it is hopei, . further improve this section, which is looked upon as of increasing importance. A proposal that the committee shall consist of 30 membefs, six extra members being elected each year until that number is reached, will have been considered at a special meeting to be held on June 29th, and will, it then approved, copi© before the annual general meeting for confirmation. Messrs H. D. de Lautour and W. Q. Sherratt? have been nominated for the position of vice-president, and Messrs A. J. Cameron, C. A. Fenwick, E. M. Hutchinson, D. Kirkpatrick, find H. G. Tucker for the four vacant seats, on the committee, and an election Avill take place m both instances at the annual meeting. The tiianks of the association are due to those gentlemen who acted as judges, stewards, etc, at our last Show, the hearty co-operation of all materially tending to the success of the gathering." The balance sheet showed that the receipts for the year amounted to £1594 3s 2d, which included the following items: Entries £289, gates £277 19s, prize fund £231 4s, subscriptions £567 16s, weight-guessing £22 16s. The expenditure amounted to £1432 Oa 3d, leaving a balance of £i 62" 2s lid. The disbursements included prize money £647 Us. printing and advertising £136 5s 6d, salary £110, Show expenses £152 17b 4d, judging £37 16s, emplpyees £60 3s. Tho liabilities were shown at £1699 18s, including capital account £1682 3s, whilst the assets included buildings £268, grounds £406 2s 6d, plant £145, yards £570 5s 6d, sundry debtors £21 13s. Mr White said the £406 for grounds was put doAvn as an asset that did rot exist. .It only referred to a lease of grounds from the Racing Club. How the value had been arrived at he did not know. It Avas misleading. He moved that the item should be eliminated. Mr H. deLautour: Wo ha-A*e the same thing every year. Mi* White: But two wrongs . do not make a right. Mr W. F. J. Anderson seconded the motion pro forma.. He said it did not require a Heaven-born financier to understand it. ' The item was for expenditure pn certain improvements to the grounds. Tl)e it,em Avas certainly an asset. The chairman said some four or five years ago ,the association expended £500 on improvements,^ and so much Avas written off by Avay of depreciation' each year, aj)d when the term Avas up m 1925 the item,. would be worked. out."

Mr W. G- Sherratt: It is only a bookkeeping entry, if it was Avritten off it would not alter tbe matter one Avay or tho othep.

The cliairman : Not the slightest. In reply to Mr H. Kemvay, the chairman said* the £211 for sundry debtors Avas for outstanding subscriptions and prize money, The report and balance sheet Avere adopted, Mr White's motion lapsing. For. the election of officers, Messrs J. C. N. Thomas and C. G . Bloore Ayere appointed scrutineers. In returning thanks for being elected as President Mr Witters said he hoped the association Avould continue to prosper. He referred to the valuable services rendered the association by the retiring President (Mr F. B. Barker) to \vh6m he said the thanks of the Association Avere due. They Avere also indebted to Mr D. Morice, Avho had gratuitously acted as treasurer for so many years, and avlio .did not seek re-election. The thanks of the association were also due to Mr W. F. J. Anderson, the hon. auditor. Mr Witters referred to tlie .death of Mr A. F. Kennedy, and it Avas decided to place on record the association's appreciation of Mr Kennedy's services. .
