MR. ROOSEVELT'S MILK.
NEW YORK, June T. Mr Roosevelt's denunciation of a "diabolical lie," circulated by his political enemies, is the chief event of to-day's political news.. The "lie," brought to his attention by numerous correspondents, was that he said, "I am a moderate drinker of strong liquors." Mr 'Roosevelt lias issued a ; letter saying : "It happens that I am as regards .liquor an exceedingly temperate man. I drink about as much as. Dr. Lyman Abbott, editor-in-chief of the- Outlook, and I say this with his permission. I never touch, whisky at all. I have never drunk a 'highball or. a cocktail m my life. I doubt if I • drink a dozen teaspoonfuls of brandy m a year. *The lie is suoh an infamous one that it is ■difficult to know what to do regarding it." Dr. Abbott, interviewed, declared that Mr Roosevelt is a moderate drinker of milk, taking as much as four glasses at a meal.
