. _ ' ». , A bachelors' ball took place at Tiniroto on Friday evening, the 7th .July, and was undoubtedly the most erijoya'ble and one of the best attended, that has been held 'm Tin£r'ot^ for many years. The night was gloriously fine »md the- roads, good, consequently, settlers with-their^ wives and friends fifliho from near and far, even , people from Wairoa and the back settlers from Ruakituri coining m strong force to ..participate in/the pleasure of .an ideal evening. The floor" was m splendid order • for ■ dancing,: and reflects great credit upon the committee, who were-, responsible for all the..arrangements, A substantial supper was handed found. A new piano-, was just installed prior to the dance, arid the music was supplied by Mrs Holmes, and was-all, that could be 'lesired. The guest* of the evening (the married settlers), as a mark of appreciation, intend giving a return dance about, the second week m July, And now to. describe the costumes of the ladies. The scribe, just a '"poor . "man," must plead • for tho clemency of the ladies for not attempting it, but states, the fact that the dresses were all pretty and appropriate for the occasion. Among those present were Mrs Glassford (Te Reinga), Mrs lv Spence (Hangaroa), Mrs G., Graham (Ruakituri), Mrs Hutcheson and friend (Wairoa), Mrs E. Wallcn (Hangaroa), Mrs Bil'mtn' (l'arikannpa), Mrs P. Richardson (Tiniroto), Misses Harris (3) and Stubbs (Waerenga-o-kuri), Mips Beer (Gisborne), Misses Kent, 2 (Tiniroto) Miss Sinton arid Miss Richardson (Tiniroto), Miss Mone and Miss Dahm (Ruakituri*), Miss Oooper and Miss, Fletcher, (Tiniroto), Miss Cousins (Te Reinga), and many others.' In all about 40 couples took the floor, and, dancingwas kept up with spirit until 3.30 a.m, On Saturday afternoon a football match was played between sides picked by -Mr Whyte (an old Association rep.) and Mr Bilham, and after a niost interesting arid exciting game resulted m a win for Mr Whyte's team by 12 to 3. The game was ably, controlled by Mr Howell, Messrs Warner and Paterson kindly acting as lino umpires. > — In the evening again many of the settlers and their guests assembled at. the hall for several hours' rinking. . Unfortunately heavy rain set in'about 8 p.m., atrl continued all. night and right on till about • 8,30 Tuesday morning, which somewhat detracted the plea-, - sure from what was a most enjoyable outing.— (Contributed)., —
