TRADES AND LABOR COUNCIL.

L ♦■ . .' I The general monthly meeting of the East Coast Trades and Labor Council was held last evening m the Trades Hall, the president (Mr J. C... E. Turner) presiding over a splendid attendance of delegates. The minutes of the previous' general .meeting were read and coniirmed,' as also Wre the minutes of seveTttl special' meetings y held during the month. A large amount hf outward and inward correspondence was read, approved, and received. Among the correspondence .received was a letter from Mr D. Robertson (secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department), m answer to the Trades Council's request that the Gisborne Post-office be raised to first status so as to allow, it being open for a while m the ovening for business, stating that that request had been granted. Several letters from the Dominion executive of the United Labor Party were also received. Several of the unions wrote notifying the Council 'of appointed to a committee to raise ft fund, for the benefit of the widow of the late Mr B. A. .Graham. '. The: report of the; business done at the recent conference of the Trades and Labor Councils' Federation was' received. The president urged upon delegates the necessity of attending meetings regularly. The- balance-sheet showed a cr.dlt balance of £45 19s 2d, which, was very creditable, m view of the' tact that, the expenses for the year- had -been very heavy, and showed careful management. > Mr J.
